Charles Darwin was christened as an infant at St Chad’s on 15th November 1809.
This beautiful and fascinating church is open daily for viewings and warmly welcomes visitors from 8:00AM – 04:00PM
Of particular interest is the silver christening bowl used to baptise Darwin and St Chad’s present baptismal font which is fashioned from limestone with a myriad of marine fossils set in its form.
*please note that access to some areas maybe limited during times of church services
Colouring Challenge - this half term
Younger visitors to St Chad’s are invited to put their best colouring skills to the test this half term holiday by helping to complete a giant banner.
The huge tree banner, which includes all sorts of animals, bugs and insects just waiting to be coloured in, will be on display in the church vestibule throughout the Darwin Festival this February.
Colouring pens are provided!
