Shrewsbury Calling: Shrewsbury Rock, Mackay, Australia

Shrewsbury Calling is an initiative by Shrewsbury Library, UK. It is an ongoing series of collaborations with places around the world that share our town’s name. Shrewsbury Library invite colleagues in libraries worldwide to show us their library as well as perform a reading by either Mary Webb or Charles Darwin. The project was kicked in 2020 in the Shrewsbury Libraries’ gorgeous listed building, and the team have also released a collaboration with their counterparts in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.

This reading, from Darwin, comes from the Mackay Library Service in Queensland, Australia - the closest library to the famous Shrewsbury Rock, which is part of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Shrewsbury Library team continue to research Shrewsburys across the globe and hope to release videos from friends in Canada and Jamaica!

It is always great when people get in touch with details of a new Shrewsbury somewhere that they can contact and say hi to - so don't be shy - email them with your ideas! Shrewsbury Calling... We Live By The River :) Shrewsbury.library@shropshire.gov.uk
