This beautiful and fascinating church is open daily for viewings and warmly welcomes visitors from 8:00AM – 04:00PM

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and sound designer John Biddulph is thrilled to announce his latest musical project, an exploration of sound that was inspired by Charles Darwin’s iconic text, The Voyage of the Beagle.

Shrewsbury Streetscape Project: The First Five Years
Shrewsbury Streetscape Project: The First Five Years is a special exhibition by local artist and architect, James St. Clair Wade which highlights the richness and variety of the town’s architecture, building by building.
The exhibition coincides with the DarwIN Festival Shrewsbury and also features a number of buildings associated with the life of Charles Darwin together with a short film entitled ‘The Mount in Miniature’, which documents the process of producing a Streetscape drawing, using Charles Darwin’s birthplace as a case study.

The Darwin Memorial Lecture 2024
Dr. Isabelle Winder is Senior Lecturer in Natural Sciences at Bangor University where she is an award-winning teacher. Susannah Darwin at The Mount: Hidden Maternal Histories - Symposium
Susannah Darwin, née Wedgwood, is the mother of renowned naturalist Charles Darwin and daughter of the famous potter Josiah Wedgwood. She is often silenced, anonymized, and referred to only as ‘Darwin’s mother’.
This unique and FREE event is an opportunity to discover more about Susannah’s life, including her experiences of motherhood, her guiding influence on the young Charles, and her contribution to the Darwin family home, business interests, and garden.

The Festival of Ideas...
Located in the heart of the town centre, for this year’s festival, Shrewsbury Unitarian Church has teamed up with local philosophy and science group “Hmmm Squad’ to launch a ‘Festival of Ideas’ on the evening of Friday 9 February and on Saturday 10 February.
The ‘Festival of Ideas’ will include talks on a range of topics from mathematics, civility, playing board games, psychology and the importance of engaging with nature.

The Unitarian Church was founded in 1662 and is a Grade II listed building.
Charles Darwin worshipped here with his mother Susannah, daughter of the famous Josiah Wedgwood.
There are commemorative plaques inside and outside the church.
Admission: The church welcomes visitors. FREE entry and guided tours.
