Charles Darwin’s Travels in North Wales

During his early life, Charles Darwin traveled extensively in North Wales, exploring the dramatic landscapes of Snowdonia, coastal cliffs, and glacial valleys. Darwin carefully examined rock formations, fossils, and evidence of glaciation, making detailed sketches and notes that contributed to his understanding of geological processes. These field excursions allowed him to observe firsthand the effects of erosion, sedimentation, and uplift, reinforcing the importance of slow, gradual change over time.

Darwin’s time in Wales strengthened his scientific rigor, observational skills, and love for natural history, laying the groundwork for his later, more famous expeditions.
