Life Beneath Our Feet

Dr Simon Jeffery of Harper Adams University is a soil microbial ecologist. His main interests are in ecosystem function and in particular how soil organisms drive processes and functions across a range of scales from, local to global, and their importance for soil health and food security.

Soil degradation is currently one of the greatest threats to global civilization due to its potential impacts on food security. As such, soil health is an understudied and yet vitally important area of research. This lecture will delve into the unseen world beneath your feet to answer the question of “how can a soil be healthy”. It will look at the role that life in the soil plays in our food provision and explore how we might work with it improve the sustainable use of our soils to the benefit of us all.

The lecture will take place over Zoom, with a Q&A session to follow.
