SM&AG Spotlight Talk: Darwin Rocks

  • Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery The Square Shrewsbury, England, SY1 1LH United Kingdom (map)

As a teenager Darwin was shown the Bellstone, a granite glacial erratic in Shrewsbury town centre, and was told there were no rocks of this sort nearer than Cumbria. The mystery of how it came to be in the town stuck with him and later influenced his interest in geology. Find out more about this interest in this short spotlight talk in the Hall of Rocks (Shropshire Gallery) at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery.

During the Darwin Festival SM&AG are delivering three special Spotlight Talks in the galleries focused on Darwin and his links to the museum collection. Spotlight Talks at SM&AG will then resume weekly from April.

From Spring to Autumn each year SM&AG run free weekly pop-up Spotlight Talks in the galleries; short 20-minute talks about a different subject each week delivered by a staff member or volunteer. These take place at 12noon and are perfect to enjoy during a lunch break, no booking needed just pop in.
