Darwin, Compassion and Climate Change - talk at the Unitarian Church

  • The Unitarian Church 37-38 High Street Shrewsbury SY1 1RL United Kingdom (map)

Bringing together his work as Director of The Darwin International Institute for the Study of Compassion (DIISC) and his love of poetry, Professor Patrick Pietroni outlines with the help of selected poems, how the concept of compassion can emerge as a force for good in our conflicted world.

Professor Patrick Pietroni:

2013 Professor Pietroni organized a conference in Shrewsbury entitled “Mental Health – How Could We Do Better?”. Following this conference, he established a steering group of interested senior academics to explore the concept of compassion, its rigour and relevance in our societies. This led to a launching conference and the establishment of the Darwin Center Trust (DCT) and the Darwin International Institute for the Study of Compassion (DIISC) in 2015. DIISC was established in December 2015 to act as the operational wing of the newly formed DCT. Spearheaded by Professor Pietroni, the DCT and DIISC are supported and guided by an international group of eminent academics, writers, and thinkers. He is currently the Director of the Centre for the Study of Compassion at University of New Mexico.
